Initially Gangsters was to be made entirely from stock footage. But archive footage of this type proved to be expensive, and we calculated that making it from scratch would the cost about the same. The brief was to create an exciting introductory sequence to a video game. We were also required to make a series of alternative outcome sequences, which would be selected by the game software depending on how the player had performed. The film was intended to invoke the feel of the ‘Pathe’ style newsreel, and the lighting was in the style of Film Noir. A large number of actors were needed, so we decided to use extras to reduce the cost. Gangsters is a very visually stylized example of the kind of corporate video production we produce.
